Content for this work goes back to the notion of uninhibited expression
grounded in discipline. Silv works within restrictions as imposed
by her choice of materials as well as by her style. But she works
a true abstract painter’s sensibility in cutting the forms
and color loose and then following to see where it will take her.
The results are mixed in that some pieces soar with excellence

while others fall short. However, this inconstancy
is a healthy indicator that the artist is engaged in an authentic
artistic exploration; in fact it’s necessary to the effort.

while working within her restrictions (self-imposed
or otherwise), she is constantly challenging them and this is what
moves her work forward. The crucial thing is the balance between
the yin that freedom of expression offers and the yang found in
the discipline. The proportions of each aspect vary in Silv’s
work but neither is ever completely absent. The exploration, the
journey, the flight of fancy, the intelligence, the informed visual
sensibility - all of this makes this work magnificent. But the thing
that makes these pieces wonderful and is the key to their meaning
is their uninhibited celebration of gesture. This is the best first
and last thing they offer.
